This moving story is a reflection in many households nationwide of the struggles and reality of living with childhood cancer. Extremely well written and a real page turner it is by no means all gloom and doom. In fact it offers a ray of hope anchored in Christ and how God's faithful provisions would be there in time of need. Lauren, author Karen Furr's second child was born strong-willed which would providentially prove key in her intense treatments that lie ahead. "There is a reason God gave that girl such a spanky, fighting spirit… Little did I know how prophetic those words would be. "Trace the sovereignty of God throughout this book and discover how, because He knows the beginning from the end, He ordains things that just are needed along the way. From Karen's career as a pediatric nurse to the timing of her mother's surgery plus much more will strengthen your resolve in trusting God with your life. This journey can be painful to even the reader who will most likely desire the light to shine much more quickly. At the cancer treatment center she discovered it was an extremely rare aggressive cancer that could change everything about her if she survived it. Just as a start it involved:
– 10 different chemotherapy drugs for 51 weeks
– Three surgeries
– 16 doctors appointments
– A port in her chest and brain
– Survival rate 10 to 15%
With no clue how "low the valley" would be both she and Lauren, age 10, would learn dimensions of God that only this trial could have brought. Lauren's heavenly visitation would forever change her and her amazing resilience and will to fight remained strong. As dangerously high fevers and pains surfaced the new normal would be where the trip to an emergency room became routine. So many "unknowns "regarding her long-term condition would hang in the balance.
This book should be read by every adult that wants to understand realities of what families go through with critically ill children. More so, it should be read to better comprehend how God provides and cares for His own. It will leave the reader with optimism rather then despair. This is without doubt a 5 star book.

I was given a PDF copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Well, I loved it. I mean, I didn't love what the family has had to go through - and it has been a LOT. But I loved the mother's honesty and bright shining faith in the telling of the story. This will be a really helpful book for anyone who's child has been diagnosed with cancer - or any other life-threatening serious disease, especially someone with faith in Christ. As an autism mother, I related to a lot of what she felt and went through.
I gave this four stars because I reserve five stars for the one or two books per year that totally knock my socks off. Four stars from me is a great, solid, excellent read, and very helpful as well.

This was an uplifting book about faith, love and courage. It shows what a loving, strong and positive family is able to accomplish with the help of God.
"Anchors For Hope" is the true story of a little girl with an aggressive brain tumor and her family's physical, emotional and spiritual journey from diagnosis to cure. It is such an inspiring book for anyone undergoing cancer treatment, a parent with a child with cancer and/or family and friends who want to support a child and family during a time of health crisis.
An inspirational book. They say people remember their faith in God when someone is in the hospital. We remember too, when coming across a book like Anchors for Hope.
If anyone is looking for a Real life account of what life is like for families struggling through the realities of childhood cancer - look no further. Karen has honestly shared the struggles and the victories of daily life, and her readers cannot help from coming away with a greater awareness of the devastation that cancer brings, as well as firming proclaiming Christ (& faith in Him) as our Hope in this world. Thanks, Karen.
This is a beautiful book! I have family who've gone through the cancer journey, and I really didn't understand the amount of uncertainty and daily struggle they were going through. Karen Furr's book has really opened my eyes to what a family's battle with cancer looks like, and her daughter's journey is so incredibly inspiring! This book takes you through the mental, emotional, and physical struggle of diagnosing the cancer, surgery, chemotherapy, continued treatments, and trying to maintain some sort of normal life in the middle of all of this. And Karen's perspective on her faith really brought home to me that we can find hope, peace, and joy in Christ, even when life is crashing in all around us. If you are going through a major trial in life, or if you know someone who is and want to know how to help them, this is a must-read for you!
